The Brown County Literacy Coalition is seeking an IU student to create a robust scheduling and communication app for use with the IU/Brown County tutoring program. 


This is a paid opportunity, however it can also serve as a Capstone or other type of project required by an academic program and overseen by a professor. 


This is a short-term contract position. The total initial budget for the project, including pay, is $1500.

Description of Project


Analyze program elements and implement a phone/tablet app for streamlining IU/Brown County tutor program organization and communication. 


The optimal app includes, but is not limited to:


  1. Notifications from interested IU student tutors

  2. Student interest form to be completed via app

  3. Connection to IU PIC to complete certification

  4. Parent form to be completed via app

  5. Scheduling

  6. Reporting

  7. Communicating

  8. Data dump from student and parent interest forms that can be exported to Excel spreadsheet and app location that will allow for easy access of student information

  9. Zoom (or other Internet-based video platform) scheduling and messaging

  10. Reporting mechanism

  11. Messaging (right now, all of these steps require their own separate mechanism)


  • Scheduling IU students, Brown County parents, school administrators, teachers, and tutoring session monitors

  • Efficient mechanisms for altered tutoring session information that is broadcast to all necessary individuals

  • Motor Pool Scheduling for transportation to and from Brown County Schools

    • Arranging for use of Motor Pool vehicles

    • For IU student to contact Motor Pool to be picked up on campus and driven to the Motor Pool facility

    • For IU students and their driver to communicate regarding their own pickup at Jordan Parking Garage . . .

    • . . . then sends a message to the program administrators that the vehicle is leaving campus

    • Notifications that the vehicles have arrived at their destination in Brown County

    • Notifications that the vehicles are leaving Brown County

    • Notifications that the vehicles have been dropped off at the Motor Pool

  • And more, as experience indicates

  • Analysis of program communications and scheduling needs

  • An app that can be quickly accessed via phone and tablet, and that can produce reports




  • 3.25+ GPA

  • Excellent math skills 

  • Ability to think through complex communications and data

  • Responsible and committed to excellent outcomes
